Sturdy, Intuitive Design
X-E5’s build quality and controls are all about an effortless user experience.
Its machined-aluminum top-plate houses the core controls. Despite X-E5’s clean, retro appearance, the most frequently used functions can be adjusted without ever diving into a menu.
X-E5 has a dedicated Shutter Speed dial, you’ll find an Aperture Ring on most FUJINON XF Lenses, and ISO can be adjusted easily using Front or Rear Command dials depending on the active exposure mode.
There’s also a Control Lever close to the shutter button. This can be customized, just like X-E5’s two custom function buttons, to cover four preferred settings. By default, Digital Teleconverter, Aspect Ratio, Surround View mode, and Custom Film Simulation are programmed.
Another useful addition is a dedicated Bluetooth button, placed on the bottom of the camera for quick connectivity.
Rangefinder-Style Electronic Viewfinder
X-E5 has an offset EVF, reminiscent of a classic rangefinder camera. The camera’s 0.39-inch, 2.36 million dot EVF provides a clear view, with the addition of some useful modes.
When you choose to change your aspect ratio or crop using the digital teleconverter function, you can control your view in a way that suits you. There are semi-transparent, black, and lined outline options, which illustrate the section of frame currently in use.
Film Simulation Dial
A few of X Series’s latest cameras feature a Film Simulation dial, but X-E5’s is the first of its design. Film Simulations are selected using a rear dial and are viewed through a window which sits flush within the camera’s top-plate.
In addition to popular standard Film Simulations, X-E5’s dial has three positions for storing customized recipes. It’s incredibly easy to create and recall unique looks built around your own creative vision.
In-Body Image Stabilization
X-E5 is the first camera in the X-E lineup to introduce in-body image stabilization (IBIS). You’ll find up to 7.0 stops of benefit in the center of frame and 6.0 stops at the periphery, meaning handheld images remain steadier – especially in low-light situations where shutter speed needs to drop.
Despite the integration of the system, which is complete with new algorithm and updated gyro sensor, this powerful functionality has led to only a small increase in size and weight compared to FUJIFILM X-E4.
40.2-Megapixel Sensor
Thanks to the latest 40.2-megapixel X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor, X-E5 delivers outstanding all-round image quality. Images are packed with detail, but it also adds extra in-camera functionality.
X-E5 has 1.4x and 2x digital teleconverter options. Rather than cropping in post, the camera applies a crop in-camera, mimicking the appearance of a longer focal length and helping you compose more accurately in the moment.
FUJINON XF23mmF2.8 R WR Lens
X-E5 comes in an optional kit with FUJINON XF23mmF2.8 R WR. It’s the same size as the popular XF27mmF2.8 R WR, with a wider focal length.
The kit lens’s 35mm full-frame equivalent field of view is useful for a wide range of subjects and provides a natural perspective. As an interchangeable-lens camera, X-E5 gives you access to more than 40 native X Mount lenses and accessories, but XF23mmF2.8 will be a perfect pairing for many.
