Using X-S20 Interval Timer for Family Portraits Learn how to use FUJIFILM X-S20’s interval timer as a great alternative to the self-timer for family self-portraits that are easier and better than ever

Designed for stills and video, X-S20 offers a dynamic combination of creative features and cutting-edge tech in a lightweight body
Photographers aren’t always behind the camera. For instance, during self-portraits or group photos, when they also have to be in the frame, their camera’s interval function comes in handy. This mode makes a photo after a set delay, allowing photographers to be part of the fun and action.

For family documentary photographer Marisa Kraft, the interval timer function of her FUJIFILM X-S20 works great as an alternative to the self-timer or handheld selfies with the flip screen.
It’s a quick and easy way for her to preserve special everyday moments with her loved ones. With it, she can simply place the camera on a good vantage point before making a sequence of hands-free images at her chosen interval.
“You can just prop it up on a garbage can, a park bench – wherever,” she explains. “I simply place it down and set the focus to wherever my family is standing. Then I’m able to set the interval timer to make a picture every second, every three seconds, or whatever I want.”
Another way she works with the interval timer is by setting it to record 20 or 40 images, right up to infinity. After selecting the number of photos she wants, she runs into the frame, makes a few poses and actions with her family, then runs back to the camera.
“The beauty of it is that you get a whole variety of pictures to choose from, rather than a single posed image. The goofy ones are usually our favorites.”

Interval Timer Tips
X-S20’s interval timer function cannot be used for multiple exposure photography or when the shutter speed is set at B (bulb mode). In burst mode, only one picture will be made each time the shutter is released.
Using a tripod is recommended to avoid blur and keep the camera stable.
Check the battery level is sufficient before starting.
The LCD touchscreen hibernates between images then reactivates a few seconds before the next photo is made. The display can be activated at any time by half pressing the shutter button.
