With the increasing number of photographers adding video to their repertoire comes the necessity for gear and tools that fit their needs.

1. In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS)

X-H2S features IBIS, which compensates for camera shake when filming handheld.

This is especially useful when filming on the go or in challenging environments where using a gimbal might not be feasible.

It can also work in combination with lens stabilization for even smoother footage.

2. 6.2K Video up to 30p

X-H2S offers 6.2K video recording at up to 30 frames-per-second (fps), which provides excellent resolution for high-end productions.

It gives you more flexibility in post-production for cropping or stabilizing your sequences. When the extra resolution isn’t needed for playback, it can be downsampled to 4K, providing better image quality than a standard 4K recording.

3. 4K Video at 120p and DCI 4K

Meanwhile, 4K at 120fps allows you to record high-quality slow-motion video. This is great for dynamic sequences, action scenes, or any moment where you want to emphasize movement.

The 4K footage is highly detailed and retains 10-bit color depth, which is beautiful straight out of camera and excellent for color grading.

In addition, X-H2S features a DCI 4K mode that offers a 17:9 aspect ratio, which for many is a cinematic framing standard – ideal for professional video workflows.

4. 10-bit 4:2:2 Internal Recording

X-H2S records 10-bit 4:2:2 internally, providing much better color accuracy and depth compared to 8-bit recording.

This makes a huge difference to overall image quality; you’ll notice a greater variety of shades and fewer visual flaws like color banding.

In post-production, you can push colors and contrast further, too.

5. ProRes and Blackmagic RAW Output

Need maximum flexibility in post-production? X-H2S can produce ProRes 422 and Blackmagic RAW output via HDMI to external recorders like the Atomos Ninja V.

This allows for incredibly high-quality video with less compression, which is essential for the highest end of professional workflows.

6. Hybrid Autofocus (AF)

The camera’s hybrid AF system is fast and reliable, featuring phase detection and contrast detection.

It offers tracking for faces, eyes, and objects during video recording, so works great for filming fast-moving subjects or dynamic scenes.

The autofocus is notably smooth as it switches from one subject to another, which is crucial for video work where this transition is part of your final scene.

7. High-Frame-Rate Modes

X-H2S supports high-frame-rate recording, allowing you to record 240fps at 1080p.

Remember the 120p slow motion from earlier? Well, this is twice as fast, for playback that’s up to 20x slower than it was recorded.

This is great for dramatic, action-packed sequences, and still offers amazing detail.

8. Dual Card Slots (CFexpress Type B and SD UHS-II)

X-H2S features dual card slots: one for CFexpress Type B cards and the other for SD UHS-II cards.

The CFexpress card slot is ideal for recording high-bit-rate video, while the SD slot is useful for backups or overflow recording. This redundancy is vital if you never want to miss a moment.

9. Film Simulation Modes

For those who prefer a more cinematic look straight out of camera, X-H2S comes with 19 Film Simulation modes – like ETERNA, which is tailored for video.

It’s great for filmmakers who want a natural, cinematic look without extensive grading. Alternately, if you want something vibrant, vintage-looking, monochrome, and beyond, you’ll find it.
